Olivier Messiaen’s ethereal “Quartet for the End of Time” is recognized as one of the most significant chamber works of the 20^th century.  Written while he was a prisoner of war in German captivity and inspired by text from the Book of Revelation, it is scored for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano—the instruments and musicians sharing space in Stalag VIII-A.
