According to the U.S. Apple Association (https://www.agmrc.org/commodities-products/fruits/apples), there are 32 states that produce apples commercially.

The top ten apple producing states are:

1) Washington,
2) New York,
3) Michigan,
4) Pennsylvania,
5) California,
6) Virginia,
7) North Carolina,
8) Oregon,
9) Ohio and
10) Idaho

And within North Carolina, the concentation is around Hendersonville, NC.

In the Hendersonville area there are 6 major apple producers (in alpha order):

1) Coston Farm and Apple House,
2) Creasman Farms,
3) Granddad’s Apples N’ Such,
4) Justus Orchard,
5) Sky Top Orchard, and
6) Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard

There are many varieties of apples. The four major varieties which make up the bulk of North Carolina's production are:

Red Delicious,
Golden Delicious,
Rome Beauty and
Stayman.

Over 40 other varieties are grown on a limited basis.

New cosmopolitan varieties are Empire, Fuji, Gala, Gold, Jonagold and Mutzu.
